Sewing Again

Last week amidst the construction dust, I managed to sew the girls each a pillowcase. It was good to sew again! Basement project is almost finished, and then I will be able to create again!

Sophia had cowboy day at school, glad grandma set her up with the gear! Notice the braids!

The last regular season gymnastics meet was last weekend, and Jurnee made the podium! We are so proud of her!

Creative update as promised

Air conditioning was difficult for me to stitch, but the fan, a blessing too! I am thankful for cool-off options! This summer with the constant humid conditions here in Wisconsin, the fan (and air conditioning) have been great blessings!

Chair cushion and table runner to match the newly covered chairs in my kitchen. I covered each of the 6 chairs in a different fabric, then used the fabrics again for the "patchwork" look on the chair and table.
I needed a new messenger bag...so one morning I work up and made one for myself! This is fun to carry and used some of my favorite fabrics! (like the pocket!)

Guess who this is for?

I made a small bag with some of my new fabric, and my grandpa's pants! I will be giving this to my sister-I embellished it with a few vintage buttons, added a pocket inside, and I am pleased with the result. Yes, other relatives, I will make one for you also, sometime.

Snow fun!

Notice the Jets hat, Rusty's contribution:) The weather has been so beautiful for March in Wisconsin 30-40 degrees and sunny.

A little something I whipped up for Sophia's jewels. I collect old jewelry boxes with the idea that I'll do something with them one day. Well, the first fruit of my labors. Sophia and Jurnee love it!

Tweet Tweet

I have been working on the birds again-many finished, many in the works, so I will just continue to keep up with them for awhile. Rusty is in Indiana again, so my machine in on the kitchen table...good place for it I say!

Hot week here in Wisconsin finally, but I am working much of it. I really wanted to get repainting some of my rooms, but I am worried with the humidity I better hold off, definitely do not want to stand around watching paint dry in the summer!

Quilt time!

Finally finished piecing the top of the string scrap quilt. I am happy how it turned out. I will be using it for soccer games, camping, that kind of thing. It was so easy, almost more difficult to find the scraps:)

This is what my weekend is looking like

So, last night I went to bed about 11:00. Woke up at 11:20 with a screaming child, of course I thought it was Sophia, no she was fine. I went into Jurnee's room and to make a long story short. I was up with her until Rusty went to work at 4am. Fever and sore throat.

Went in to the Dr this morning. Jurnee's temp 104.5 Sophia had 1/2 dose of ibuprofen (as that is all we had left) before we went to the Dr and her temp was 102.8

Both girls tested negative for strep (if you know anything about the Midwest-there are so many cases of strep throat here it is ridiculous) -Never had it myself though.

So we are home nursing both girls with movies, books, Motrin, and hopefully some sleep before long. The Motrin doesn't seem to be helping Jurnee much though.

I am off of both jobs for a whole week, and hope to get to some fireworks shows, the beach and finish many of my sewing projects! I plan to show off my new quilt project later...please check back.

What do you think?

So, What do you think? This is one of the creations I have been working on for awhile, but I could just never get 20 solid minutes at one time to work on it...but today I did! I know the light is funky, still using Jurnee's camera, but anyway, I got the base idea from a Belle Armoire issue I bought awhile back. Anyway, I think this is definitely more of a tote and I would use it for knitting, the beach, the library or something like that. It is super heavy duty and has a men's necktie for the tie around the top.

Rusty does not like the necktie at all, what do you think? I have another one ready to sew, but before I finish it, I would love some feedback.

Latest Happenings

Lousy photos, but this is one of my latest projects. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. I appliqued the circles into what I feel is a change of seasons that we experience here in Wisconsin. I really need to figure out how to make better photos with the digital camera, or I may as well forget it! Sheesh...
I also picked up my poppy pattern for my applique class, and I can hardly wait to get started on it. I will show my progress as I work on it.

I just called my sister in Minneapolis and she is not affected by the bridge collapse other than inconvenience, though she said at approximately 6:05 Tuesday night she was on that very bridge, man, close call. I bet traffic sill be a disaster there for awhile. We will see in early September when we go there for the fair. Did you know the Minnesota State Fair is incredible?...I like to hang out in the arts & crafts building, lol.

Janell was here this weekend and took some fabulous photos of the girls for me. She is so stinkin' talented. She works with all sorts of vintage cameras for herself and has a darkroom where she develops the photos herself, but using my camera seemed to work out fine. (Maybe she could tell me what I am doing wrong.)

Enough for tonight...

Feeling a little fallish

We are so incredibly busy around here, with I don't know what, I guess it is just the home with two small children.
So, this potholder is something I came up with awhile back, and while cleaning & reorganizing my craft room, I found this unfinished little number, and decided to finish it, I am pleased with it, and plan to make more for my Etsy shop.
Speaking of the Etsy shop, I created the shop last year in September I think, and had lots to sell, before I got it all in the shop, I sold it. So I will be more prepared this time around, and I have a few other things coming along. I will report when new items are listed, probably in a couple of weeks.

Update on Rusty's dad, he is getting by, still in the hospital, so far the surgeries he had last week have been successful, he gets rods in his back on Friday.

So, I woke up on Monday morning

So, I woke up on Monday morning and thought, what does Jurnee give for a birthday gift to a 6-year old that has everything? TA DA...

So I busted time and made this apron, and I live by a children's bookstore and picked up a cookbook. Lydia liked the gift very much and so did her mom Becky .
Whew...We have also been busy with other stuff, we drove to Portage, WI and back, quickly this afternoon, for our final homestudy visit - post-placement. So glad that part of the process is over, but I will sure miss Kari my social worker, she was wonderful during both of our adoption processes.

The Church project went well, and I have decided to be involved with the Tinsel Trail craft show in town her on nov 19. Which means, my sewing machine will be working overtime!!!!!!!!! Hopefully I will be able to share a booth with my new bud Rachel. I guess I am going to focus on bags for the show...I have several orders to get done for the holidays also. But no problem! I know I can do it!
Somehow, I need to get a visit in to my mother also, she wants us for Saturday, but I just don't see how that can happen, Jurnee has a halloween party and I need to be sewing! I have all kinds of ideas for tinsel trail and I just need to get them going, and I have quite a few pillows finished and need to get them sewn together also. Blah blah blah... the same stuff I write about each day
And we did not get our referral for Sophia...I guess next month we are definitely going to be included. So, travel to China in January, it will be too cold in Beijing, so I believe we will forgo that part of the trip. no other travel plans figured out yet.
